ROSS & LUCY’S INTIMATE PRIEST RIVER BARN WEDDING
Ross and Lucy wanted their late summer Idaho wedding day to be beautiful, whimsical (Lamp shades hanging in the trees?!), and surrounded in the people that mean the absolute most to them. They ended up with a wedding washed in happy tears and a guest list of folks that knew how to make it special for them. They chose to say “I do” on Lucy’s father’s private property in Priest River, Idaho, just a short drive from Sandpoint and Coeur d’Alene. After the ceremony and dinner up on the hillside, everyone gathered in the family barn a dance party nobody wanted to end... but, Ross doing the Worm dance move and splitting his chin open on the concrete kinda called the party!
A Thrifted Dress, Family Friends, and a Barn Full of Love
Ross and Lucy built their celebration around the people and things that mattered most to them. Nothing needed to be extravagant to be beautiful or meaningful.
• The setting: Lucy’s family property in Priest River, Idaho, where the day felt less like a production and more like coming home.
• The dress: A beautiful thrifted gown, tailored and altered until it was just right.
• The flowers: Designed by a most talented friend, bringing a personal touch to the celebration.
• The cake: Baked by a retired family friend that feels like a second mom, one more reminder that the people behind the details were part of their story, too.
The result was a wedding that felt unmistakably theirs. Every thoughtful detail carried a connection to someone they loved, and the entire day had the easy, lived-in feeling that makes backyard weddings so special.
DIY Charm Meets a Wild Barn Party
Of course, intimate didn't mean quiet all night.
Lucy is a professional circus acrobat, and apparently, those skills come in handy at a wedding reception. As the evening unfolded, the family gathering transformed into a full-on barn party. Kids, grandparents, and everyone in between hit the dance floor, and guests even took turns climbing the performance pole set up at the back of the barn.
The energy was infectious. Nobody was worried about looking cool or getting the perfect photo. They were simply having the time of their lives together.
And that's the beauty of a wedding like this: the day doesn't have to follow anyone else's idea of what a wedding should look like. It only has to feel right to the two people getting married.
Award-Winning Creative Portraits
While my core style is rooted in pure wedding photojournalism, capturing raw, unscripted moments as they unfold naturally, I still absolutely love taking a quick pause in the day to document just the two of you with style and intention.
During our couple's portrait session down on Lake Pend Oreille, we had a lot of fun! Lucy even climbed a tree in high heels, like only an acrobat could do. Three of these portraits from Ross and Lucy's session were recently recognized with three international Artistic Guild WPJA Awards!
The Artistic Guild of the WPJA specifically honors outstanding artistic vision, creative light, and styled portraiture within wedding photography. It was an honor to see Ross and Lucy's fun couple’s moments together celebrated on a global stage.

A North Idaho Wedding, Exactly as It Should Be
Ross and Lucy's wedding was a reminder that the most meaningful celebrations aren't necessarily the biggest or most elaborate. Sometimes, all you need is a place filled with your favorite people, a few tears, and a barn that comes alive after dark. Something I’d never seen done in 100+ weddings was Lucy handwrote a thank you for attending to each and every guest to mark their seat for dinner.
As a Sandpoint and Coeur d’Alene wedding photographer, these are the stories I want to tell: the real ones, full of belly laughs, happy tears, and the beautifully unscripted moments that make a wedding yours and yours alone.
Ross and Lucy, thank you for letting me be there to document it all.
